Gourmet No More?

I heard this morning that Gourmet Magazine will cease to publish following its November issue. Michael Takasaki seems to think its all my fault. Doesn’t he know what guilt does to Jews? Why can’t I enjoy my 15 minutes like John Wayne Bobbitt and Karheinz Schreiber?

About Zane Caplansky

40 yr. old Toronto boy trying too eek out a living owning a deli. Been open 18 months and still loving it - mostly.

That’s bizarre. I’d not heard of this?!!?

After Caplansky’s Delicatessan, what else was there left to talk about?

Growing hungrier by the day, I remain,

I also read about gourmets closing yesterday. The article, written clearly for online publication, cited epicurious.com’s resourcefulness as a recipe booklet as the reason why people will ultimately not miss Gourmet. Naysayers often neglect just how high quality the photography is (bordering on food art) especially compared to the far lamer competition Bon Appetit. Sure, food blogs have taken much of the place of that but most of them seem very off the cuff while Gourmet magazine takes months of planning to edit and publish, not minutes. Epicurious is searchable, but their searches often find b zof fun to read about a city through its food, it’s delicacies, and imagine being there. While the recipes haven’t always been the greatest, they’re frequently true gems, especially those collected from restaurants (hint hint). And there’s something to be said for the quaint formality of the letters section.
