New Summer Hours.
Opening at 11am weekdays and 10am weekends.

Here’s The Plan

I’m recovering nicely from the procedure on Tuesday.  I walked a lot and even drove yesterday but I’m paying for that today.  The plan, right, here it is:

I decided not to order more meat to the Monarch last week so we’re going to keep going until its all gone and once its gone, we’re done.  I don’t expect the meat supply to last until the end of the month.  The new place should be open in late August so that’ll give us a month to figure everything out.  There’s a pretty big “to do” list when you open a restaurant.

The biggest reason for closing this early was staffing.  Christopher got accepted to teachers’ college, Megan’s moving back to BC and Catherine’s going to Europe with her mom for three weeks and it seems everyone else wanted a week off here or there.  Everyone except Andy.  Andy and I worked together at Magic Oven before he moved to Western Canada to make big bucks drilling oil.  We’ll figure out something for Andy. Anyway, this way everyone gets a week off, a week to train and then we’re open.

Personally, there no sad emotions about leaving the Monarch.  It has been a fantastic place to get started, an authentic Toronto tradition that I’m honoured to be a part of and a place I know I’ll continue to visit fro time to time.

Anyway, I thought you’d like to know.

Lucky you. My knee surgery was disastrous. No walking for weeks. Of course, that was all because of the blood clot.

On another note, I’ll be sad about the Monarch for both of us.

robin and i went to your place for dinner last night.
smelled overwhelmingly like mothballs or urinal pucks. not sure which one it was, nor do i really want to know.

the Monarch’s “charm” only goes so far.

If you look around the bar, you’ll see they have these scented chemical doo-dads that are probably what you smelled because I’m not sure I’ve ever seen either a mothball or a urinal puck in the place. In any case, they smell awful and I’m frankly surprised its taken this long for someone to voice their olfactory objections. One of the many things I won’t miss at all.

Glad to have been there for lunch today. Yeah, I’m really pleased with the knee. On to physio next.

The only reason olfactory objections haven’t been voiced is because the food was so #!@$ good.

Was thinking of bringing good old mom around tomorrow for a bite before you run out – have fun at physio!
